Scarborough: Giuliani would be ‘disastrous’ pick for State

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Saturday evening slammed Rudy Giuliani, one of the top contenders to be Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of State.

Scarborough, a former GOP congressman from Florida, said Giuliani would be “a disastrous pick” for the position, adding he is “neither qualified nor capable of effectively holding the position.”

{mosads}The “Morning Joe” host did indicate he believes the former New York City mayor could serve as Homeland Security secretary, but said “the search should continue” for secretary of State.

Scarborough argued that Giuliani, who served as an adviser to Trump throughout his campaign, would “overshadow” the Cabinet picks Trump has already made.

Earlier this week, Trump spokesman Jason Miller confirmed that Giuliani was one of the four candidates being considered for secretary of State, along with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Romney was a vocal critic of Trump’s candidacy, calling him a “phony” and “fraud,” though the two have met twice recently in what aides described as cordial meetings for the pair to get to know each other.

Other potential candidates thought to still be in the mix for the secretary of State position include retired Gen. David Petraeus and Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
