Obama, Bush to meet Tuesday at embassy bombing memorial

President Obama and former President George W. Bush will meet Tuesday in Tanzania, appearing jointly at a wreath-laying event at the site of the 1998 U.S. embassy bombing.

According to White House press secretary Jay Carney, the two are not expected to make remarks at the event.

{mosads}The former president is in Zambia with his wife, Laura, to promote Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon, an anti-cancer initiative. They also will help refurbish a health clinic there, and will travel later in the week to Tanzania to host the African First Ladies Summit. First lady Michelle Obama is scheduled to also attend that event.

Laura Bush told the Dallas Morning News that the clinic project was a “wonderful example of how women … can bring money in for their families.”

“It’s really important, worldwide, that women have a chance to contribute to their economy,” Bush said.

In an interview earlier Monday with CNN, Bush said he didn’t want to levy criticism at the current president.

“I don’t think it does any good,” he said. “It’s a hard job. He’s got plenty on his agenda. It’s difficult. A former president doesn’t need to make it any harder. Other presidents have taken different decisions; that’s mine.”

The two presidents last met in April, when Obama spoke at the dedication of Bush’s presidential library and museum in Dallas.
