De Blasio spokesman after Trump Tower evacuation: ‘We’ll send you the bill’

A spokesman for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on Tuesday poked fun at a member of President-elect Donald Trump’s team after Trump Tower was partially evacuated due to a suspicious package.

After the evacuation, Sean Spicer, whom Trump named as his White House press secretary, tweeted that the Trump team was back to work at Trump Tower after a “false alarm.”

“Thanks NYPD,” Spicer tweeted.

“No problem. We’ll send you the bill,” Eric Phillips, spokesman for de Blasio, responded, sharing the tweet.

{mosads}The lobby of Trump Tower was briefly evacuated Tuesday afternoon after reports of a suspicious package.

New York Police Department spokesman J. Peter Donald tweeted that the department’s bomb squad was responding to the report “out of an abundance of caution.” The spokesman soon tweeted an “all clear.”

Law enforcement later said the suspicious package was a bag of children’s toys, according to multiple reports.

Last month, de Blasio asked the federal government to help foot the bill for Trump’s round-the-clock security detail. A report last month said protecting the president-elect and his family was costing New York City more than $1 million per day.

Trump is spending the holidays at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.
