Paladino asked to resign from school board over racist Michelle Obama comments
Carl Paladino, who served as New York co-chairman for President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign, is being asked to step down from the Buffalo, N.Y., school board over racist comments he made about Michelle Obama.
The other eight members of the Buffalo Board of Education on Thursday voted 6-2 to ask Paladino to resign within 24 hours and petition the state to remove him if he doesn’t go willingly, The Huffington Post reported.
Earlier this month, Paladino said he hoped “Obama catches mad cow disease after being caught having relations with a Herford. He dies before trial and is buried in a cow pasture next to [senior White House adviser] Valerie Jarrett, who died weeks prior, after being convicted of sedition and treason, when a Jihady cell mate mistook her being a nice person and decapitated her.”
{mosads}He also said of first lady Michelle Obama: “I’d like her to return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortable in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla.”
Trump’s transition team last week called the comments “absolutely reprehensible” and said “they serve no place in our public discourse.”
Paladino also faced heavy criticism from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and other political figures.
He apologized earlier this week, saying he was “certainly not a racist” and would not step down from the school board.
The two school board members who voted against the resolution defended Paladino, asking that he apologize to students instead of being forced out.
One board member, Patti Pierce, said she hoped the people in Buffalo could forgive Paladino and “take a page out of the horrific massacre that happened in Charleston, S.C., where nine innocent people in a house of worship were slain by a hateful, hate-filled man.”
The assembled crowd ripped Pierce for invoking the mass shooting, with one woman shouting at Pierce as she left.
