Reps. Davis, Gutierrez back Illinois Gov. Quinn over former chief of staff Daley
{mosads}”I don’t believe that I am taking sides when I support the incumbent governor of the State of Illinois,” Gutiérrez said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “The incumbent governor of Illinois has a rich history of support for issues that are very dear and important t me. Amongst those issues are immigration, but also education and economic development.”
Similarly, Davis told the Sun-Times that it wasn’t that surprising that he supports Quinn.
“I represent the governor, he lives in my congressional district,” Davis said. “So one could not expect me to do anything but support one of my constituents.”
Backing by Davis and Gutiérrez is noteworthy given that a number of congressional Democrats have refrained from taking sides in the 2014 Democratic primary.
Other lawmakers have refused to either pick Daley or Quinn. Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Daley’s predecessor and now the mayor of Chicago, has also said it’s it’s “way premature” to back either Quinn or Daley, according to DNAInfo Chicago.
