Rep. Sanford’s ex-wife: ‘My heart goes out to’ Huma Abedin
Sanford’s husband, the former governor of South Carolina, made headlines when for six days in June 2009, he disappeared, reportedly hiking the Appalachian Trail. Subsequently, it was revealed that he had been in Argentina visiting a woman with whom he was carrying on an extramarital affair. Mark Sanford returned political life, winning reelection to his old House seat earlier this year.
{mosads}Earlier this week, Weiner acknowledged sending explicit photos and messages to a woman as recently as last summer, more than a year after he resigned from the House when similar electronic communications were revealed. He has said he will not drop out of the mayoral race, and Abedin appeared at his side during a press conference on Tuesday.
“Anthony’s made some horrible mistakes,” Abedin said. “Both before he resigned from Congress and after. But I do very strongly believe that is between us and our marriage. We discussed all of this before Anthony decided to run for mayor.
“So really what I want to say is, I love him; I have forgiven him; I believe in him, and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward,” she added.
