Pelosi rips Weiner for ‘reprehensible’ and ‘clueless’ behavior
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday denounced Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) and Bob Filner (D-Calif.), two of her former House colleagues who are now embroiled in sex scandals, for behavior she calls “reprehensible.”
{mosads}“The conduct of some of these people that we’re talking about here is reprehensible,” the minority leader told reporters at a press conference on Capitol Hill.
“It is so disrespectful of women, and what’s really stunning about it is they don’t even realize. They don’t have a clue.”
“If they’re clueless, get a clue,” she added. “If they need therapy, do it in private.”
Pelosi is the latest Democrat to express disgust with Weiner, who is running for mayor of New York. The former congressman’s campaign was rocked by new revelations this week that he sent explicit sexual messages to young women on the Internet even after a similar 2011 scandal forced him to resign from Congress.
Weiner has so far resisted calls that he withdraw from the mayoral race.
Filner, the mayor of San Diego, has been accused of sexual harassment by three women. He has apologized, saying he didn’t “fully respect the women who work for me and with me,” but denies that he’s guilty of sexual harassment and says he won’t resign.
“Don’t identify him as my former colleague,” Pelosi said Thursday of Filner.
Both Weiner and Filner served in the House of Representatives when Pelosi was Speaker.
