GOP rep: If I don’t take cop painting down, someone else should

Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) said early Wednesday that he might again remove a controversial painting in the highly trafficked tunnel between the U.S. Capitol and House office buildings that depicts police officers as feral pigs.

“If I don’t, I hope someone else does,” Lamborn said during an appearance on “Fox and Friends.”

The painting, which is part of a national high school art project and has hung in the tunnel since last June, depicts police officers as pigs in a confrontation with black protesters.

{mosads}It was removed by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) last Friday, before being rehung by Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) on Tuesday. Lamborn then took it down before it was rehung and removed by GOP Reps. Dana Rohrabacher (Calif.) and Brian Babin (Texas).

Lamborn said Wednesday that the tug-of-war between Republican and Democratic lawmakers may stretch into another day. 

“You know, I was standing there looking at it deciding what to do and someone stood behind me and said, ‘My son is a cop; that’s disgusting, that’s disgusting,’ ” he said. “So for me that was the last straw.”
