Obama honors World Series champion Giants
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — who Obama
noted was a Giants season-ticket holder — and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee joined
the team to mark the occasion.
{mosads}While much of the team had also visited the White house in
2011 after winning its first World Series title in San Francisco, Obama noted there
were some major changes in the two years that had passed — like star pitcher
Tim Lincecum’s new, cleaned-up look.
“We’ve even got new haircuts. Where’s Tim?” Obama said to
laughs. “See, you don’t even recognize him anymore.”
It was also the first trip to the White House for MVP
catcher Buster Posey, as he missed the White House visit in 2011 due to an ankle
injury.
San Francisco team President Larry Baer pointed out that the
Giants weren’t the only ones who scored a repeat victory in 2012: He noted that the Giants’ World Series win came a week before Obama won his
reelection campaign.
