Ringling Bros. Circus to close after 146 years
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will end “The Greatest Show on Earth” in May, following a 146-year run, according to The Associated Press.
The AP learned declining attendance combined with high operating costs are among the reasons for closing.
Animal rights groups have long targeted the circus.
{mosads}In 2014, for example, activists lobbied the U.S. Postal Service to stop selling stamps honoring the circus.
After years of protests and legal battles, the company removed elephants from its shows last year.
