Crowd boos GOP rep at MLK Day event over ObamaCare repeal

Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.) was met with a chorus of jeers Tuesday as audience members protested the congressman’s support for repealing ObamaCare during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event in Denver.

People in the crowd at the city’s annual MLK Jr. Day “Marade” chanted “No repeal,” The Denver Post reported.

Coffman on Saturday left a town hall meeting early after promising to speak to every constituent who showed up, angering constituents.

{mosads}On Friday, Coffman joined with other Colorado GOP lawmakers in penning an op-ed in the Post that called for a “reality check” on ObamaCare.

“Two weeks into 2017, it is clearer than ever that fixing our nation’s health care system will require a full repeal of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare,” the congressmen wrote.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) faced similar opposition during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event on Monday, when some audience members called her a “liar” and chanted about saving ObamaCare. McMorris Rodgers is also an opponent of the healthcare law.

Republican lawmakers have vowed a swift repeal of outgoing President Obama’s signature healthcare law, though they have yet to coalesce around a replacement plan.
