Obama: We’re going to have presidents of every race, creed

President Obama reflected Wednesday on being the first black president and predicted during his final White House press conference that he wouldn’t be the last.

“I think we’re going to see people of merit rise up from every race, faith, corner of this country, because that’s America’s strength,” Obama said when asked about being the first black president.

“If we keep opportunities open we’re going to have a woman president, a Latino president, a Jewish president, a Hindu president,” he said.

Obama added that he thinks there will also be mixed-race presidents at some point and “no one will really know what to call them, and that’s fine.”

The president pointed to the diverse group of U.S. olympians this year as an example, noting that they were men and women of all shapes, sizes, races and faiths who represented the country well.

Obama argued that creating equal opportunities, such as Title IX’s affect on the Olympics, would help ensure all people have a chance to pursue their goals, whether involving the Oval Office or something else.
