Govs. Jindal, Perry, Walker heading to SC for Haley fundraiser

Republican Govs. Bobby Jindal (La.), Rick Perry (Texas) and Scott Walker (Wis.) will travel to early primary state South Carolina in August to help fundraise for Gov. Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) who could be facing a tough reelection fight.

Walker, Jindal and Perry will be “special guests” at a fundraiser for Haley in Greenville, S.C., on Aug. 26, according to CNN, which first reported the event.

{mosads}The trip will fuel further speculation about the 2016 GOP presidential race, with the governors seen as possible contenders.

Perry ran for president in 2012 and has said he will not seek reelection to the governorship in Texas, leaving his future plans open. Haley was mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate for 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

Haley’s finance committee is sponsoring the event. A number of high profile South Carolinians, including top state strategists and leaders of Republican groups in the state will attend.

Haley’s campaign has raised $2.5 million.

She is expected to announce her intention to run for reelection in the coming weeks and would likely face Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen.

Both Vice President Biden and Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) have traveled to South Carolina to help boost Sheheen’s campaign.
