Lawyer: Snowden has found a ‘safe,’ secret place to live in Russia

National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden has found a place to live in Russia after he was granted temporary asylum by the country, his Russian lawyer said Friday.

{mosads}Russia granted Snowden, who leaked details of two top-secret NSA surveillance programs, temporary asylum on Thursday, prompting outrage from U.S. officials. 

The White House said it is “extremely disappointed” with the Kremlin and warned that the administration may pull out of an upcoming summit in Moscow next month between President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The ex-CIA employee had spent nearly six weeks holed up in a Moscow airport in an attempt to evade charges of espionage from the United States.

The move allows Snowden to live and work in Russia for at least a year, with some restrictions.

Snowden has not yet decided what he will do during his stay in Russia, his lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, said Friday.

For now, Snowden “is in a safe place,” Kucherena, told Russian news agencies, although he added that the location would remain secret due to concerns for Snowden’s safety. 

“As soon as he decides what he will do, I hope he will announce it himself.”
