Report: Trump, Boehner play golf

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) played a round of golf with real estate mogul Donald Trump in New Jersey as part of his August fundraising drive, according to reports.

The golf outing is sandwiched between several fundraising events during the summer recess. Boehner raised money for Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) in Harrisburg, Pa., on Monday and appeared at an event for Rep. Chris Gibson (R-N.Y.) in Ferndale, N.Y., on Tuesday.

{mosads}Boehner and Trump have an easy relationship in contrast to the volatile one between another pair of avid golfers, the Speaker and President Obama. Obama and Boehner famously teed off in 2011 amid tense negotiations over the debt ceiling.

In addition to their shared affinity for golf, Trump regularly sings the Speaker’s praises to the media. He called Boehner a “terrific guy” with the “right temperament” in an interview with the National Review, and last fall donated $100,000 to a super-PAC tied to the Boehner.

Trump hinted that he would run for president in 2012, although he ultimately backed GOP nominee Mitt Romney. Trump recently announced an upcoming trip to Iowa to speak at an event for a conservative evangelical group but remained evasive on his 2016 presidential ambitions.

Though Trump is ranked the better golfer by the United States Golf Association, it was unclear who won the game at the Trump National Golf Club on Tuesday.
