De Blasio: Trump’s immigration order ‘un-American’

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on Sunday said President Trump’s ban on immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries is “un-American.”  

“There was no guidance, and obviously there was no guidance to federal officials around the country,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “That’s why there so much confusion.”

De Blasio said the Trump’s order “makes no distinction of someone who has a green card and is already on a pathway to citizenship.”

“I think today that a lot of Republicans and independents are looking at this with a great deal of concern.” 

{mosads}A federal judge in New York late Saturday issued an emergency stay temporarily halting the removal of detained individuals.

U.S. District Court Judge Ann Donnelly, who was nominated by former President Barack Obama and confirmed to her judgeship in 2015, ruled in favor of a petition filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on behalf of two Iraqi men who were detained at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Friday after Trump signed his order.

Donnelly ruled that “there is imminent danger that, absent the stay of removal, there will be substantial and irreparable injury to refugees, visa-holders, and other individuals from nations subject” to Trump’s order.

“We’re still not clear that the Trump administration has honored that decision by a federal judge,” de Blasio said on CNN.

“We’re trying to get a clear picture of that.”
