Snowden: My father doesn’t speak for me
{mosads}“Neither my father, his lawyer Bruce Fein, nor his wife Mattie Fein represent me in any way,” Snowden said in a letter to The Huffington Post. “None of them have been or are involved in my current situation, and this will not change in the future. I ask journalists to understand that they do not possess any special knowledge regarding my situation or future plans, and not to exploit the tragic vacuum of my father’s emotional compromise for the sake of tabloid news.”
In his letter to The Huffington Post, Snowden said news organizations had been “misled” into printing “false claims” made by his father and his father’s attorneys.
Snowden didn’t specifically detail any instances where he believes they misled reporters, but Matte Fein told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday that there was tension between her husband and The Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald.
She also said Greenwald was looking to capitalize financially off of Snowden by shopping him around for expensive interviews.
“I’ve been fortunate to have legal advice from an international team of some of the finest lawyers in the world, and to work with journalists whose integrity and courage are beyond question,” Snowden said. “There is no conflict amongst myself and any of the individuals or organizations with whom I have been involved.”
Snowden’s father, Lon Snowden, and Bruce Fein have been frequent guests on cable news shows, denouncing U.S. officials for rushing to judgment about Edward’s crimes, pushing for leniency, and saying he planned to visit his son at some point soon in Russia.
