Obamas visit private beach as vacation draws to a close

President Obama and his family on Saturday kicked off the last weekend of their Martha’s Vineyard vacation with a morning visit to a private beach on the south side of the island.

It’s the first trip to the beach this week for the first family, who saw a gloomy and rainy start to their eight-day sojourn. But skies were clear Saturday, with temperatures hovering in the mid-70s.

On Friday night, the Obamas took in the annual Oak Bluffs fireworks display from the vacation rental home of White House adviser Valerie Jarrett. It was a late night for the Obamas, who did not return back to their own rental home until after midnight.

{mosads}Earlier in the day, the first family rode bikes along a trail in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest, a nature reserve created in an attempt to prevent the extinction of the Heath Hen.  

The White House did not say whether the president was briefed Saturday morning about developments in Egypt, although Obama typically begins his day with a national security meeting. At least 173 Egyptians died Friday in clashes across the country, with a spokesman for the Egyptian government saying it would study whether it could dissolve the Muslim Brotherhood group. 

The Obamas plan to return to Washington on Sunday.
