Thousands protest Trump’s immigration ban for second week in a row

Thousands of protesters gathered across cities nationwide on Saturday in protest of President Trump’s immigration ban.

In Washington, D.C., protestors met at the White House in the morning and eventually moved toward the Supreme court. Video shared on Twitter showed crowds chanting throughout the protest, and booing as they passed the White House.

In Wisconsin, protestors marched outside Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R) hometown office. Other protests were held in cities across the U.S. including New York and Miami. Thousands also turned out to protests in London.

The demonstrations mark the second consecutive weekend of protests following the executive order Trump signed Jan. 27, which imposed a 90-day ban on nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the U.S.

The original order also called for a 120-day moratorium on admitting refugees and an indefinite halt on admitting refugees from Syria.

Federal Judge James Robart, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, issued an immediate nationwide restraining order on Friday against Trump’s action.

Trump took to Twitter early Saturday to blast the “so-called judge” for issuing a “ridiculous” order. He tweeted Saturday afternoon further criticizing the ruling.

The Department of Homeland Security said Saturday it had suspended “any and all actions” regarding Trump’s ban, though it indicated the government would file an emergency stay on the ruling.
