Report: San Diego Mayor Filner to resign
San Diego Mayor Bob Filner will resign, according to a local television station.
Filner, who has been accused of sexual harassment and improper sexual advances by 17 women, has been in mediation talks on his future.
{mosads}ABC 10 News in San Diego reported the former congressman had reached a deal in which he will leave office.
Filner has been under enormous pressure to resign in California and in Washington, where many of his former colleagues have torched him with criticism.
The mayor faces the possibility of multiple lawsuits, and it’s possible the resignation could be a bargaining chip in future civil claims or even criminal prosecutions.
According to ABC, the mediation deal will also include a six-figure settlement for Irene McCormack Jackson, one of Filner’s accusers who had filed a civil suit against him.
San Diego’s city council will have to approve any deal.
