Employees at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls were instructed to trash any signs advertising merchandise from Ivanka Trump’s retail brand, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
According to the Times, employees at the two sister stores were told to throw away Ivanka Trump signs and move her products from individual display areas to shelves mixed with other brands.
“Effective immediately, please remove all Ivanka Trump merchandise from features and mix into the runs,” read a note to workers obtained by The New York Times. “All Ivanka Trump signs should be discarded.”
{mosads}“Runs” refers to the other clothing racks where the majority of products hang.
A spokeswoman confirmed that the note was sent to employees and told The New York Times that the Ivanka Trump merchandise was mixed into the racks, not removed from the sales floor entirely.
{mosads}“We offer a rapidly changing selection of merchandise for our customers, and brands are featured based on a number of factors,” parent company TJX Cos. spokeswoman Doreen Thompson said.
The T.J. Maxx decision comes after Nordstrom pulled Trump’s merchandise from its shelves. The department-store chain announced it would cut back on stock of Trump’s merchandise, choosing not to sell most recent seasonal line of clothing, though some would remain in stores.
The store said on Twitter that the decision was not based on politics, but “the brand’s performance.”
President Trump earlier Wednesday attacked Nordstrom on Twitter for pulling his daughter’s line from stores.
“My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” he tweeted.
During a press briefing later in the day, White House press secretary Sean Spicer defended the president’s tweets about Nordstrom.
