Kaine: Sometimes I feel like I live in ‘alternate reality’

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said on Wednesday that he sometimes feels as if he’s living in an alternate reality since President Trump’s election.

“I wake up some mornings and it seems like the campaign was a dream, and I wake up other mornings and think I might be living through some alternate reality now,” the former Democratic vice presidential nominee said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Hardball.”

The Virginia senator, who’s up for reelection in 2018, ran alongside Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. 

{mosads} In the Wednesday interview, Kaine said that the loss was a sign that he belonged in the Senate, but also called his post-election life “surreal.”

Kaine also criticized Sen. Jeff Sessions’s (R-Ala.) confirmation as attorney general Wednesday, saying Trump’s pick to head the Justice Department would be detrimental to civil rights.

“The attorney general needs to be seen as a champion for civil rights and that’s not been Sen. Sessions’s record on LGBT equality, on voting rights, on special education,” Kaine said.  

“People won’t see him as that champion that they saw Bobby Kennedy and others, and that was one of the reasons that I decided to oppose him,” he added.
