More than half of Americans say the current political climate is a source of stress in their lives, according to a new survey.
A poll released by the American Psychological Association found that 57 percent of respondents said the political climate is a “very” or “somewhat” significant source of stress.
About two-thirds of respondents said the future of the nation is a significant source of stress, and 49 percent said the outcome of the election was a significant source of stress.

The poll found that 72 percent of Democrats saw President Trump’s victory as stressful, while only 26 percent of Republicans felt the same way.
Sixty-two percent of people living in urban areas reported very or somewhat significant stress related to the election outcome, while only 45 percent of those living in suburban areas and 33 percent of people living in rural areas said the same.
Still, 59 percent of Republicans and 76 percent of Democrats agreed that the future of the nation was a significant source of stress.
The survey was conducted as part of a larger poll on stress in America, conducted by the Harris Poll on behalf of the APA. The part of the poll specifically about the presidential election was conducted from Jan. 5 to 19 among 1,019 adults.
