Trump invites Scalia’s widow to speech

President Trump will host former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s widow as a special guest at his Tuesday address to a joint session of Congress.

Maureen McCarthy Scalia will join first lady Melania Trump during Trump’s speech along with other special guests, including the widows of two California police officers killed in the line of duty by a man who was living in the U.S. illegally.

Scalia was also present earlier this month when Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch, a federal appeals court judge, to succeed her husband on the Supreme Court.

{mosads}Gorsuch is a self-described a Constitutional textualist and an originalist in the vein of Antonin Scalia.

The presence of Maureen Scalia and the two widows of slain officers offer a glimpse at what Trump may highlight during his speech.

Scalia’s appearance hints that the president will tout his nomination of Gorsuch and pressure Democrats to vote to confirm him. And the the wives of fallen officers hint that he will focus on his efforts for stricter immigration law enforcement.
