Anthony Scaramucci, a top adviser to President Trump, on Wednesday said he never intended to suggest that Democrats were responsible for threats against Jewish community centers, one day after appearing to do so in a tweet.
“What I was really suggesting in that tweet is that we actually don’t know who’s behind it,” Scaramucci told CNN’s “New Day.”
“And so what you’re finding is there’s a lot of allegations being made and I think people are suggesting that it could potentially be Trump supporters or people who that are affiliated with the president or his administration,” he continued. “I think that is categorically very unfair.”
{mosads}But asked why he appeared to tie the threats to Democrats, Scaramucci pointed out that some Democrats got caught inciting violence at Trump campaign rallies last year.
“I tied it to what has happened in the past,” he said.
Scaramucci tweeted on Tuesday that it is “not yet clear” who is responsible for the wave of threats against Jewish community centers and noted controversies in which some Democrats disrupted Trump’s rallies during his presidential campaign.
“It’s not yet clear who the #JCC offenders are. Don’t forget @TheDemocrats effort to incite violence at Trump rallies,” he wrote on Twitter.

Scaramucci immediately faced criticism for that remark, later writing a tweet trying to clarify his comment.
“No, I’m saying until we know for sure it’s highly irresponsible to jump to conclusions,” he tweeted.
