Cuomo to meet with Netanyahu during visit to Israel

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials during his trip to Israel this weekend, his office announced Saturday.

“New York’s special relationship with Israel is cultural, economic, spiritual, and historic, and I am proud to lead this unity trip to strengthen our economic ties and to reaffirm our strong friendship and support,” Cuomo said in a statement.

“With the recent rise of anti-Semitism, it is more important than ever before to demonstrate the connection between New York and Israel, our intertwined histories and our common futures, and spearhead new economic partnerships to bring our communities closer together,” he said.

{mosads}Cuomo’s visit, meant as a show of solidarity with the Jewish community, comes after a series of bomb threats against Jewish Community Centers across the U.S.

The issue has sparked new concerns of anti-Semitism, with President Trump opening his address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday by denouncing the threats.

“The message this time is very important. There’s been a rash of anti-Semitism all across the state, all across this nation. We take it very seriously,” Cuomo maintained Saturday, according to NY1.

The governor is expected to return to the U.S. on Monday.
