The Statue of Liberty went dark Tuesday night around 10 p.m. after the lights at the statue shut off with no notice, leaving an iconic New York City sight quiet.
New Yorkers took to twitter to share photos of the black harbor, questioning whether the shut down was intended to be part of the Women’s Strike scheduled for Wednesday.
{mosads}A National Parks Service spokesperson said the blackout was a technical glitch.
“We believe it is related to the activation of a new emergency backup generator which is being installed as a part of our last remaining hurricane Sandy recovery project,” the spokesperson tweeted.
The lights went back on sometime after 11:30 p.m.
