AT&T customers report experiencing outages around the country

AT&T customers are reportedly experiencing outages across the country, sparking concerns over 911 calls.

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted that there was a “nationwide” outage for AT&T customers just after 8:30 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday.

Bowser advised D.C. residents to call a local number in case of emergency.

A Twitter account for a the district’s police department and informational hotline also reported the outage and shared the local number.

Reports from a local ABC station suggest that not all users in the D.C. area, including in Northern Virginia and in Maryland, are experiencing difficulties.

Several users on social media posted screenshots from AT&T notifying customers of the outage. “AT&T is experiencing a nationwide outage which is affecting 911 calls,” the text reads for DC-area customers.

A police department in Texas also posted on Facebook indicting that the outage was nationwide, and sharing a local emergency number. The Facebook post was updated once officials were notified that the service in the area was restored.

Earlier Wednesday, local reports in Texas indicated that the outage was statewide.

“We are aware of a service issue affecting some calls to 911 for wireless customers and we’re working to resolve it as quickly as possible. We apologize for this inconvenience,” an AT&T spokesman told the WFAA ABC station in the Dallas area.

The company tweeted at 10:30 p.m. that the outages had been resolved, following an earlier tweet that it was aware of the problem for wireless users and working to resolve the issues.

AT&T did not immediately respond to a request from The Hill for comment.
