Reid told Warren to run for president in 2020: report

Former Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in November to seriously consider a presidential bid in 2020, The New York Times Magazine reported on Monday.

Weeks after President Trump’s shocking Election Day win, Reid was intensely focused on rebuilding the Democratic Party, the report said.

“He was worried in November,” the magazine quoted Warren as saying. “For me, it was so important to make clear: We will fight back — we will fight back. We’re not here to make this normal.”

{mosads}Warren has developed an enthusiastic following among many Democrats, who have expressed hopes that she will take up her own presidential bid in 2020. She was a rumored candidate ahead of the 2016 race and stumped for Clinton in the general election, harshly criticizing Trump.

Warren has positioned herself as one of Trump’s fiercest opponents since he took office in January and has urged Democrats to embrace their current role as the opposition party to a Republican-controlled White House and Congress.

Reid retired from the Senate in December after serving in his party’s leadership for more than 15 years.
