GOP group ran ads thanking lawmakers for repealing ObamaCare after vote was canceled

A Republican super-PAC ran ads Friday thanking Republicans for repealing ObamaCare — hours after the vote was canceled.

“Republicans are keeping their promise, with a new plan for better health care,” one of the American Action Network advertisements said. “Thank [California] Congressman Darrell Issa for keeping his promise and replacing the Affordable Care Act with the better healthcare you deserve.”

Deadspin first reported on the ads, which ran during NCAA Tournament basketball games Friday night.

{mosads}The center-right advocacy group bought airtime for the advertisements encouraging viewers to contact and thank a number of GOP representatives for repealing ObamaCare.

The $1.5 million campaign was started two weeks ago, partially to “encourage lawmakers to deliver on their health care promise” a statement from the American Action Network said. The campaign was set to run two weeks as the vote on the healthcare bill approached.

Many only noticed the ads Friday, after the GOP pulled the ObamaCare repeal bill from the House floor moments before a scheduled vote, after it became clear it would fail.

President Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) scrambled throughout the week to convince House Republicans to vote yes. But conservative lawmakers didn’t think the bill went far enough, while centrist Republicans were also unhappy.

The pulled vote is a huge setback for both the administration and House GOP leadership after Republicans campaigned on repealing ObamaCare for the last several election cycles.
