‘Morning Joe’ co-host: We got into Trump’s head
MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski claimed Tuesday that President Trump’s decision to unfollow her and her co-host, Joe Scarborough, on Twitter proves the pair got under Trump’s skin.
“In all seriousness, it shows that we got in his head,” Brzezinski said during an appearance alongside Scarborough on “Late Night” with host Seth Meyers.
Brzezinski said the Trump administration has done “far worse” than she expected, adding that “it’s almost at the point of no return.”
“It’s been shocking,” Scarborough said of his longtime relationship with Trump. “We’ve known the guy for 10, 11 years, and we never never expected it to be quite this bad.”
{mosads}Scarborough said he believes the “Morning Joe” pair’s relationship with Trump went downhill after Scarborough said on-air that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) produced higher show ratings than when Trump appeared on their show.
“He went crazy, sent me a letter, had a spreadsheet, talked about how his ratings were higher than ours,” Scarborough said.
“We attacked him. I mean, said, ‘He could start World War III,’ said all of these horrible things about him during the campaign, said he was a racist, a bigot, it all rolled right off his back. The second we said Chris Christie and Bernie Sanders out-rated him, that was the end,” Scarborough added.
While Scarborough praised certain Republicans leaders like Sens. Mitch McConnell (Ky.), John McCain (Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.) for standing up to Trump, Brzezinski criticized other GOP lawmakers for cozying up to the president.
“Honestly, the fact that Republicans are still sucking up to him at this point is kind of pathetic. … I don’t care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, there’s right and there’s wrong. And this guy’s wrong,” Brzezinski said.
Scarborough expressed hope that Trump would start acting like the man they’ve known privately for over a decade.
“I hope that Donald Trump becomes the Donald Trump that — and we’ll say it — that we’ve known privately. A guy that’s a hell of a lot more gracious in private than this sort of reality-show president that he plays on TV,” Scarborough added.
