Dem rep: ‘We are dealing with wickedness in high places’

A Democratic member of Congress is warning of “wickedness in high places” after former national security adviser Michael Flynn offered to speak to congressional investigators probing associated of President Trump and their alleged ties to Russia in exchange for immunity.

“We are dealing with wickedness in high places right we now!” Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) wrote on Twitter on Friday.

{mosads}Clarke’s comment comes a day after Flynn’s lawyer, Robert Kelner, said that the retired lieutenant general was willing to be interviewed by members of the House and Senate Intelligence committees in their investigations into Russian election meddling and whether Trump and his associates colluded with Moscow in the efforts.

The White House has fervently denied such allegations, and the president has assailed the investigations as a “witch hunt.”

But Kelner said Flynn’s information would only come if Congress and the Justice Department grant him immunity from prosecution.

That offer has stirred suspicion among some lawmakers, who are questioning why the former nationals security adviser would request legal immunity and whether Flynn’s testimony would warrant such a sweeping gesture.

Flynn resigned from his White House post in February after it was revealed that he discussed sanctions with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in the month before Trump took office. He reportedly misled Vice President Pence and other White House officials about the nature of the conversations.
