GOP lawmaker booed, interrupted at Md. town hall

Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) received fierce opposition at his first town hall since President Trump’s inauguration.

The House Freedom Caucus member struggled to keep control of the crowd at Chesapeake College on Friday, with protesters booing him over a wide range of political issues.

Harris was booed minutes into the event and was subsequently interrupted by the crowd throughout.

“If you take time doing this, it’s less time for questions,” Harris said as he attempted to calm the angry crowd.

The three-term congressman did not waver on his policy stances, reiterating his positions on government and healthcare.

“We need to turn [healthcare] back to the states so the states make the decisions on what’s best for their patients,” he said.

On occasion, Harris also pushed back against individuals in the crowd, challenging them to follow the rules of the facility and maintain order.

Harris opposed the GOP’s ObamaCare replacement bill, which leadership pulled from the floor before a vote where it was likely to fail. The Freedom Caucus was instrumental in defeating the bill after numerous negotiations with the White House and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).
