Calif. governor: Drought finally over

The lengthy drought that plagued California since 2014 has come to an end, California Gov. Jerry Brown announced Friday.

According to the Associated Press, Brown declared an end to the state’s drought emergency that forced local lawmakers to create innovative water conservation projects.

Brown, however, did not remove most of the water use restrictions implemented in recent years.

{mosads}”This drought emergency is over, but the next drought could be around the corner,” he said.

Despite a wet winter that saw several heavy snow storms blanket California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, the governor kept the drought emergency in place for four counties.

The drought has strained the farming communities in the state and is estimated to have killed more than 100 million trees.
