Warren rips Trump over tax returns: ‘The issue is not over’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Tuesday ripped President Trump for refusing to release his tax returns, saying “the issue is not over” despite Trump’s dismissals.

“No, the issue is not over,” Warren said on NBC’s “Today” show. “He promised during the campaign that he would reveal his taxes. In fact, how many clips have you got here that he would reveal them after this, he would reveal them after that?”

Trump previously said in 2015 and 2016 that he would release his tax returns. He later said he couldn’t release the returns until a tax audit was completed.

{mosads}On Saturday, tens of thousands of protesters joined tax marches across the country demanding that Trump release his tax returns. On Sunday, Trump tweeted mocking the protests.

“Someone should look into who paid for the small organized rallies yesterday. The election is over!” Trump said, adding in a separate tweet: “I did what was an almost an impossible thing to do for a Republican-easily won the Electoral College! Now Tax Returns are brought up again?”

Warren fired back Tuesday, saying people will not give up on trying to get Trump to release his tax returns.

“People are going to keep demanding it, and they’re going to keep demanding it and making their voices heard on this. Look, why is it the case that people at the very top should get a bunch of tax breaks, should be able to hide their business dealings, when everybody else pays, when everybody else gets out there and makes our roads and bridges work, makes our schools work?” Warren said. “Let’s see what Donald Trump is up to.”
