Obama to attend Pittsburgh Steelers owner’s funeral
Former President Obama will attend the funeral of Pittsburgh Steelers Owner Dan Rooney on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
Rooney died last week at 84 years old. Rooney served as the U.S. ambassador to Ireland for three years under the Obama administration.
The former president is not expected to speak at Rooney’s service.
{mosads}“Dan Rooney was a great friend of mine, but more importantly, he was a great friend to the people of Pittsburgh, a model citizen, and someone who represented the United States with dignity and grace on the world stage,” Obama said in a statement shortly after Rooney passed away.
“I knew he’d do a wonderful job when I named him as our United States Ambassador to Ireland, but naturally, he surpassed my high expectations, and I know the people of Ireland thank fondly of him today.”
Former Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State John Kerry and former Attorney General Eric Holder are also expected to attend the funeral, according to the Post-Gazette.
