Trump to fundraise for Handel in Georgia runoff

President Trump is slated to hold a fundraiser for Georgia GOP congressional hopeful Karen Handel during his visit to Atlanta on Friday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

According to the newspaper, the fundraiser is set to take place after the president delivers his keynote address at a National Rifle Association convention at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Tickets to the fundraiser reportedly start at $2,700, with host sponsorship costing $25,000. According to the report, the invitations were sent out to the Republican donors in the state on Tuesday evening.

The White House has been actively involved in the Georgia special election to fill the seat of Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price and has publicly urged the voters not to back Handel’s Democratic opponent, Jon Ossoff.

{mosads}Handel was able to force Ossoff into a runoff last week, with the Democrat failing to secure the majority vote needed to win the election outright.

The pair will now face each other in late June.

Handel has welcomed Trump’s support of her effort to keep the longtime Republican district red.

“It is all hands on deck for us,” she told CNN after Trump called to congratulate her on advancing to the runoff.

“We know what is at stake here and I don’t think that this is about any one person. We all have to rise above it, that it is about the district that has a long legacy of Republican leadership.”
