Rand Paul to teach a course on dystopias in George Washington University

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is set to teach the students of George Washington University about “dystopian visions” next fall.

According to the campus newspaper The Hatchet, the course will focus on the history of dystopias and the manner in which they relate to the current political debate.

{mosads}“I am thrilled to have an opportunity to join the faculty and students at the George Washington University for the upcoming fall semester,” the lawmaker told the newspaper through a university spokesperson.

“The George Washington University is one of our nation’s leading higher education institutions and I look forward to my time in Foggy Bottom,” he added.

Paul has previously expressed interested in teaching courses on dystopia, but said that other commitments kept him from fully exploring the opportunity.

“I’ve talked about it, but unfortunately I keep developing other projects that get in the way,” the lawmaker told Vice in 2013.

“I would like to do it someday. I think dystopian novels are a discussion of politics, and sort of what happens if you let a government accumulate too much power.”
