ABC addresses conservative petition to save ‘Last Man Standing’
ABC news shut down rumors on Wednesday that the cancellation of Tim Allen’s sitcom “Last Man Standing” has to do with the actor’s political beliefs.
ABC’s entertainment president, Channing Dungey, maintained in a conference call that the show was canceled for “business and scheduling reasons.”
{mosads}According to a report, she also maintained that a big part of her job is to “make the tough calls and cancel shows we would love to have on.”
Over 289,000 people have signed an online petition to save the show, with many speculating it was canceled due to Allen’s Republican-leaning views.
“[‘Last Man Standing’] was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings,” Dungey said, according to the report.
“Once we made the decision to not continue with comedies on Friday, that was where we landed,” she added.
Another potential reason for the cancellation is the fact that the show is not produced by ABC Studios but is rather a product of Century Fox TV.
Dungey, however, said that she “wouldn’t say that was the sole factor in not bringing ‘Last Man Standing’ back.”
