Chelsea Clinton: Election loss an ‘unexpected blessing’

Chelsea Clinton says that her mother Hillary Clinton’s defeat in the 2016 presidential election is an “unexpected blessing” for their family.

The former first daughter said that the election loss has given Hillary Clinton more time to spend with her grandchildren.

“My son Aidan is 11 months old right now, my daughter Charlotte is 2-and-a-half,” she said Wednesday on ABC’s “The View.”

“The unexpected blessing has been all the time we’ve been able to spend together as a family. I think that’s a real blessing.”

{mosads}Chelsea Clinton then recounted how her parents recently played with her daughter.

“Charlotte right now is obsessed with ‘Peter Rabbit,’” she said. “And so a couple of weekends we planted a garden at my parents’ house in Chappaqua, [N.Y.].

“It was really nice seeing my mother and father dig in the dirt with my daughter. It was such an unforeseen gift that my daughter was giving me to see my parents in that way.”

Chelsea Clinton added that her parents treat her children like “the center of the universe” when they spend time together.

Hillary Clinton joked last week in a a commencement speech at Wellesley College, her alma mater, about how she coped with her loss to President Trump last year.

“You may have heard that things didn’t go exactly the way I planned, but you know what? I’m doing OK,” she said. “Long walks in the woods, organizing my closets — I won’t lie, chardonnay helped a little, too.”
