Clinton-era CIA chief: Flynn offered me my old job
Former CIA Director James Woolsey says in a new interview that then-incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn offered him his old job six days after November’s presidential election.
Woolsey told The Wall Street Journal that he turned down the job due to concerns about Flynn, adding that he did not believe Flynn had the authority to offer him the post.
“I turned it down, partially because I didn’t want to work for him, partially because I didn’t think the structure was set up right,” he said.
{mosads}Woolsey served as a senior adviser to President Trump’s campaign but resigned from the transition team in January.
The former CIA director, who worked under President Bill Clinton, said he would have given the offer more consideration if it had been made directly by President-elect Trump.
Flynn’s lawyer claimed the story was false in an email to the Journal.
Flynn was forced to resign from his national security adviser role earlier this year after he mislead Vice President Pence about conversations with a Russian diplomat. He is under investigation for allegations that he illegally withheld financial connections to the Kremlin and Turkey that had the potential to influence him while serving in the White House.
