Sierra Club on Paris deal withdrawal: ‘Congratulations President Bannon’

The Sierra Club reacted to reports that President Trump has decided to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate deal with a congratulations — to Stephen Bannon.

“Congratulations, President Bannon,” the environmental group tweeted Thursday afternoon, minutes before Trump was set to make the announcement.

Bannon, chief strategist in the White House, reportedly urged Trump to withdraw from the deal. He was joined by Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt.

{mosads}Bannon is known for fighting “globalist” policies like the Paris agreement.

White House staffers including first daughter Ivanka Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and special adviser and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were reportedly pushing the president to stay in the agreement.

Trump reportedly told members of Congress Thursday he planned on pulling out of the agreement. Trump was set to make the official announcement in the White House Rose Garden at 3 p.m. Thursday.
