Palestinian officials will continue peace talks with Trump this month: report

A Palestinian delegation is set to meet with President Trump in Washington this summer to discuss next steps in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, according to the Jerusalem Post.

“We have ongoing contacts with the administration and expect the delegation will go to America after the holiday,” Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad said, according to the Israeli newspaper, referencing the Muslim holiday Eid-al Fitr.

News of the delegation’s visit, which will consist of five officials, comes after the president reportedly asked Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during his trip last month to Bethlehem to send a delegation to Washington to continue the peace talks.

Although Trump has not released a specific plan for brokering peace between the two regional rivals, he maintains that he is committed to the peace talks.

“I am committed to trying to achieve a peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians,” the president said in Bethlehem last month.

“I intend to do everything I can to try to achieve that goal,” he said.
