Trump friend: Spicer trying to ‘undermine’ me
A friend of President Trump on Tuesday accused White House press secretary Sean Spicer of trying to undermine him.
One day after making news for saying Trump is considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller — who is leading the FBI investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia — Chris Ruddy slammed Spicer for downplaying his claims.
Spicer told reporters late Monday that Ruddy never spoke to Trump about Mueller and is not authorized to comment.
{mosads}Ruddy, the CEO of conservative news organization NewsMax, said Spicer’s statement doesn’t deny his claim and attempts to undermine him.
“Spicer issued a bizarre late night press release that a) doesn’t deny my claim the President is considering firing Mueller and b) says I didn’t speak to the President about the matter — when I never claimed to have done so,” Ruddy told Politico.
“Memo to Sean: focus your efforts on exposing the flim-flam Russian allegations against POTUS and highlighting his remarkable achievements! Don’t waste time trying to undermine one of your few allies.”
Ruddy was spotted leaving the White House on Monday shortly before his remarks about Mueller.
Ruddy’s comments come as others close to Trump have expressed doubt with Mueller as special counsel.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has questioned Mueller’s ability to be fair in his investigation, citing political donations from people Mueller have hired to staff the investigation.
