Lawmakers sport LSU gear at baseball game in honor of Scalise

Lawmakers at Thursday’s Congressional Baseball Game sported Louisiana State University gear in honor of Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise (R).

Scalise, who attended LSU, was shot in the hip during the Republican team’s practice in Alexandria, Va., early Wednesday.

Many of the gold caps lawmakers wore were donated by LSU, which overnighted about 70 hats and two dozen t-shirts to Washington, D.C., according to a local ABC News affiliate

{mosads}“We are grateful to Congress for thinking of Rep. Steve Scalise during this difficult time and recognizing him by wearing LSU gear in support of his recovery,” LSU President F. King Alexander said in a statement posted to the university’s website.

“Rep. Scalise is a proud LSU alumnus and great supporter of the university, and we are proud to help out even in this small way.”

Players from both parties were spotted sporting the LSU shirts and caps at the game Thursday, many posing for photos before the game started.
