Trump approval hits low point in CBS poll
President Trump’s handling of the Russia investigation is pulling down his approval rating, according to a new poll.
At 36 percent, Trump’s approval rating is his lowest in CBS News polls since he became president. One-third of Americans now say his approach to the investigations has made their opinion of him worse, pollsters found.
{mosads}Out of issues including terrorism, the recent lawmaker shooting and the economy, respondents give the president his most negative scores on his handling of the Russia probe.
The poll also found 40 percent of Republicans now think it is at least somewhat likely the Trump campaign had improper contact with Russia, up from 25 percent in March.
Just one in five Republicans, however, thinks the investigation into Russian election meddling is a critical security matter, and more than half believe the investigations are a “political distraction that should be put aside.”
The survey of 1,117 adults nationwide, conducted June 15-18, has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
