Lewandowski: Shut down the special counsel investigation

Corey Lewandowski is calling for an immediate end to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

“What is Bob Mueller doing?” Lewandowski asked early Wednesday on “Fox & Friends.” “I don’t even understand what his role is anymore because everyone has said there is nothing here and so this investigation should end immediately.”

Mueller’s investigation is ostensibly probing Russian interference in the election and the possibility that some Trump campaign officials had improper contacts with Moscow.

But more recently, media reports indicate the investigation has expanded to whether President Trump tampered with an FBI investigation into his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, whose foreign lobbying efforts while part of the campaign have drawn scrutiny from law enforcement officials.

{mosads}Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey, who later testified that Trump had asked him to give Flynn a pass.

Lewandowski, who served as Trump’s campaign manager, on Wednesday pointed to an op-ed that ran in The New York Times a day earlier by conservative writer David Brooks, a fierce Trump critic. Brooks warned that Russian hysteria has gripped Washington and worried that the allegations of collusion between Trump campaign officials and Moscow had been overblown.

“This is amazing — David Brooks is not a Trump supporter, he’s truly a Trump hater and if you have someone as liberal as him from the failing New York Times coming on and saying maybe, just maybe, the people in Washington should understand this,” Lewandowski said. “There is no collusion. There is no obstruction. There was no communication. It’s time to move on from this.”

Lewandowski does not have a formal role in the administration but is a frequent guest at the White House and is one of a handful of outside surrogates Trump relies on to defend him on television.
