China frees activists who probed labor conditions at Ivanka Trump shoe supplier

Chinese authorities on Wednesday released three activists who were detained after investigating labor conditions at a factory that made shoes for first daughter Ivanka Trump’s brand.

The activists were with China Labor Watch, a New York-based nonprofit, and were investigating reports of excessive overtime and low pay by Chinese company The Huajian Group, NBC Washington reported.

They were released on the final day of their 30-day detention period limit.

{mosads}In April, China Labor Watch sent a letter to Trump asking her to work to improve conditions in her Chinese factories. Her brand told The Hill that it had not used the factory in question in months.

The company also said it stopped producing Trump shoes months ago and denied allegations of excessive overtime and low wages.

The detained activists were readying a report alleging low pay, excessive overtime and verbal abuse of employees at Huajian Group factories when they were detained, according to NBC Washington.
