Former Reagan, Bush aide: ‘We’re watching a president devour himself’
A former Republican presidential aide ripped President Trump after Trump’s latest attack on two MSNBC hosts on Thursday, saying Americans are watching a president “devour himself.”
{mosads}“We’re watching a president devour himself, his presidency & civic norms/guardrails,” Peter Wehner tweeted.
“Is this what the right/Republican Party want to defend?”

Wehner, who served in the Reagan and both Bush administrations, is currently a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and a New York Times contributor. He joins mounting criticism to Trump’s attack on “Morning Joe” co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. Trump called Brzezinski “low I.Q.” and “crazy,” and said she was bleeding from a face-lift during a visit to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida late last year.
I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came..

…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!

Republicans including Sens. Lindsay Graham (S.C.), Ben Sasse (Neb.) and Susan Collins (Maine) blasted Trump’s tweets.
Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.
— Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) June 29, 2017
Please just stop. This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office.
— Ben Sasse (@BenSasse) June 29, 2017
This has to stop – we all have a job – 3 branches of gov’t and media. We don’t have to get along, but we must show respect and civility.
