Poll: Most think Trump is abusing his powers

Most Americans believe President Trump is abusing his power, a new poll finds.

The Quinnipiac poll released Thursday found 52 percent said Trump is abusing his power, with 46 percent saying he isn’t.

{mosads}Respondents were divided on whether Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey was an abuse of power, with 47 percent saying it was and 49 percent saying it was not.

The poll found Trump with 40 percent approval and 55 percent disapproval. The numbers are virtually unchanged from an April edition of the same poll, which showed him with 40 percent approval and 56 percent disapproval.

“A bump, not a jump, in approval for President Donald Trump, who is still mired in awful numbers on leadership, honesty and empathy,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the poll.

Respondents called for Trump to stop tweeting from his controversial personal Twitter account, with 61 percent saying he should stop and 32 percent saying to keep tweeting.

The poll also noted that American voters say 61-32 percent that Trump should stop tweeting from his personal Twitter account.

Among Republicans, 49 percent said Trump should stop tweeting, while 43 percent said he should continue — the first time Quinnipiac has found more GOP voters wanting him to stop. Republicans want the president to stop tweeting from his personal account.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,212 voters nationwide from June 22 to 27. The poll’s margin of error is 3.4 percentage points.
